MyFormsFinder Toolbar Removal Guide

Do you know what MyFormsFinder Toolbar?

MyFormsFinder Toolbar is one program that you should remove from your system since it is not all that useful. Furthermore, it is considered malicious because it hijacks your browser’s homepage, new tab page, and search engine. Moreover, its installed toolbar is malicious since it can collect information about you and generate commercial advertisements. It is considered malicious because its ads come from unknown third-parties, and thus, can be dangerous as there is no way of knowing if they are legitimate. Therefore, in this article, we are going to discuss how this application is distributed, how it works, and how to get rid of it in its entirety.

Let us begin with how it is distributed and touch upon its origins. So this application was developed by a malware developer known by the name of Mindspark Interactive Software. However, due to recent developments within the company, it has changed its name to AIC Applications. Were are not surprised by this step since, throughout the years, Mindspark had acquired a bad reputation. So the company is starting anew with a different name.MyFormsFinder Toolbar Removal GuideMyFormsFinder Toolbar screenshot

However, this company’s ways have not changed since the early days. Its toolbars still work the same, and it employs the same old distribution techniques we have so gotten used to seeing. So, most users get this application from MyFormsFinder Toolbar’s main website at Myformsfinder.com. According to our research, this website is visited from Canada 30.4%, Germany 15.2%, and the United Kingdom 10.4%. Another method this program’s developers employ is software bundling. This approach has also been used for distributing prior applications, such as EasyHomeDecorating Toolbar, PackageTracking Toolbar, and FlightSearch Toolbar. Lastly, MyFormsFinder Toolbar’s download is being promoted on various websites in the form of banners that redirect to its website at Myformsfinder.com. Note that these methods are loosely described in its privacy policy which states that “The MS Products may integrate, be integrated into, bundled, or be provided in connection with third-party services, feeds and/or content.” Now that we have covered this program’s distributions methods let us move on to how it works.

Our malware researchers have deemed MyFormsFinder Toolbar as malicious because it is configured to automatically replace the search engine for Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer to Home.tb.ask.com — a custom Ask.com-based search engine. Furthermore, it will change the homepage for Internet Explorer and Firefox and well as the new tab page for Chrome. Home.tb.ask.com is not a malicious search engine that can jeopardize your computer’s security, but you should know that it will include third-party advertisements and promotions among its search results. Furthermore, as stated in this search engine’s AdChoice’s subpage “We use cookies, pixel tags, web beacons, mobile device IDs and similar files or technologies to collect and store the information we automatically collect about your computer, device, and Service usage.” These cookies serve several purposes, such as to “enable Ask, Mindspark, APN and third-party advertising both on and off this website,” among other things. So this toolbar’s search engine can keep tabs on you for the purpose of increasing advertising revenue.

We want to clarify that in addition to MyFormsFinder Toolbar’s ads are of questionable legitimacy and chances are that can compromise your PC’s security with malicious content. Moreover, they will not take responsibility for the content that they promote as stated in this program’s privacy policy “Mindspark is not responsible for the availability of such external sites or resources, and does not endorse nor responsible or liable for any content, advertising, products, or other materials.” So clearly, there is something wrong with the way Mindspark chooses its business partners, so do not allow your computer to become compromised by malicious content and uninstall this toolbar as soon as possible. However, there is one last thing we want to discuss.

After you uninstall MyFormsFinder Toolbar for the Control Panel, your job is not yet complete. This program leaves junk files and registry keys. For example, it leaves junk files in %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\MyFormsFinder_fl or %PROGRAMFILES%\MyFormsFinder_fl, it depends on whether your computer’s OS is 32-bit or 64-bit. Furthermore, it leaves files in %AppData%, %LOCALAPPDATA%, %USERPROFILE%, and %LOCALAPPDATA%. Regarding the Windows registry keys, we want to mention that it created keys in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node, HKLM\SOFTWARE, and HKLM\SYSTEM. So as you can see, there are places you should mop up if you want to get rid of it for good.

So why would not you want to get rid of it when it hijacks your browser’s settings and forces you to use its promoted search engine that features commercial advertisements of unknown legitimacy. Apart from the search engine, MyFormsFinder Toolbar too can display ads, and both this toolbar and the search engine collect information about you for marketing purposes.
