Do you know what ClickMovieSearch is?
You might think that ClickMovieSearch is supposed to help you search for movie-related content, but that is not how this extension works. In fact, it does not offer anything specific at all. It can help you browse the web, but only because it redirects to Yahoo Search. Does the extension optimize the results in a way to offer more movie-related content? No, it does not. In fact, it redirects to Yahoo Search to show third-party links. These are not the normal links you would see if you used search.yahoo.com. These are additional links that the extension adds. That means that it is not a search tool, but rather a redirector and search results’ modifier. Does that sound like a useful program to you? If it does not, wait no longer to remove it. If you do not know how to delete ClickMovieSearch, check out the guide below.
We do not know where you found ClickMovieSearch. Perhaps you were introduced to this potentially unwanted program – or PUP – via a pop-up advertisement. Perhaps you were redirected to its installer on some random website. Perhaps you found it promoted on the Chrome Web Store. We know that this extension is not unique in any way. In fact, it has tons of clones, some of which include IStreamingSearch, LiveSportSearch, VideosSearches, and FileConverterSearches. All of these could be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store at the time of research, but that is not the case with ClickMovieSearch. Another thing that these extensions have in common is the so-called “portal” page. The one linked to the PUP is portal.clickmoviesearch.com. The funny thing is that this page is not introduced after installation. Instead, it is feed.clickmoviesearch.com that we get introduced to.ClickMovieSearch screenshot

What do you know about the search tool represented by ClickMovieSearch? Do you know that it redirects to a third-party search engine? Do you know that it redirects to Yahoo Search? Do you know that the results shown to you are modified to represent the links of the PUP’s partners? Needless to say, reliable and reputable parties are unlikely to work with a PUP, and the links injected by it are more likely to belong to suspicious and perhaps even unreliable parties. Do you want to put yourself at risk by interacting with potentially unreliable links? Surely, you do not. We are also sure that you have no use for the suspicious extension, and removing it will not affect you in any negative way. In fact, you will only get to a safer place.
If you follow the guide below, you will have ClickMovieSearch removed manually. You will also have browsing data cleared, which is important from a personal security standpoint. The PUP and its partners are likely to use cookies and other tools to collect information about you, and you want to make sure that you get rid of them. What about the default search provider? Once you delete ClickMovieSearch, it should return back to normal, but if you want to replace it, you can always do it at “chrome://settings/searchEngines.” Enter the line into the browser’s address bar, and set the desired default search provider. Finally, do not forget to scan your system. If any other threats are found, implement anti-malware software for automated removal.
Delete ClickMovieSearch from Google Chrome
- Launch the browser and enter chrome://extensions into the address bar.
- Click the Remove button placed next to the undesirable extension.
- Enter chrome://settings/clearBrowserData into the address bar.
- Click Advanced, choose a time range and boxes, and finally click Clear data.
In non-techie terms:
ClickMovieSearch offers nothing useful, and that is the most straightforward reason to delete it from your browser. Of course, if you dig deeper, you should realize that you must remove this PUP because it hijacks the default search provider, redirects to a third-party search engine, and modifies the results to ensure that you face sponsored links. The PUP also spies on you and shares information with the advertising partners. Is this enough for you to want to remove ClickMovieSearch? We are sure that it is. If you want to get rid of the threat manually, use the guide below. If you are more interested in having the threat deleted automatically – which is especially useful if additional threats exist – you should install reliable anti-malware software.
