Keylogger.Revealer is a monitoring tool used for only one purpose – to log users’ keystrokes. We would lie if we said that it is newly-detected malicious software because it has already been around for more than 9 years. Originally, it was developed by the company Logifox having no intention of causing problems to users. It is still available for download at the company’s website https://www.logixoft.com/en-us/index and is promoted as free monitoring software, so it does not surprise us at all that so many cyber criminals downloaded it and adapted it to their needs. Without a doubt, they use Keylogger.Revealer for malicious purposes. Unfortunately, it is not that easy to detect this keylogger on the system because it can create its executable (.exe) file in any directory on the victim’s machine. The only obvious sign showing that this malicious application is active on the system is the appearance of a malicious process in Task Manager. It should have a name rvlkl.exe, but, of course, it might be named differently too. Can you find such a process active on the list of all processes? If so, it means that you have the keylogger installed on your computer and it already spies on you. Delete it right away because your privacy might be violated due to its presence.
The only activity Keylogger.Revealer performs on victims’ machines when it affects them is logging all users’ keystrokes and saving them in one .txt file. Since it works silently in the background, it takes time for users to realize that all their keystrokes are automatically recorded. As mentioned above, one of the first signs showing that the keylogger is installed on the system is the presence of rvlkl.exe, the malicious process, in Task Manager. It takes time to realize that Keylogger.Revealer is installed on the system and records keystrokes because it does not have an interface. It only places it executable file somewhere on the system (e.g., you might find it in %WINDIR%\System32, %ALLUSERSPROFILE%, or another directory) following the successful installation. Also, it should create a point of execution (PoE) in the Startup folder (%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup), specialists say. Delete Keylogger.Revealer
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Open the Processes tab.
- Locate the malicious process (it might be named rvlkl.exe) and kill it.
- Close Task Manager and open Explorer.
- Check %APPDATA%, %LOCALAPPDATA%, %WINDIR%\System32, %ALLUSERSPROFILE%, and other directories malware tends to hide in.
- Remove the malicious file, e.g., rvlkl.exe found.
- Go to %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
- Remove the entry of Keylogger.Revealer, e.g., rvlkl.lnk.
- Empty Recycle bin.
