AdSkip Removal Guide

Do you know what AdSkip is?

AdSkip is a decent-looking application that should work as an ad blocker. It is said on its official website adskiper.com that it can “block annoying ads and domains known to spread malware” and eliminate “video ads before you see them.” As this piece of software looks like a really beneficial application, many users download it willingly because they expect that they will not see advertisements anymore. Unfortunately, it is not exactly true. Our specialists have tested AdSkip in the internal lab and found that it does not work properly. In other words, it is not going to eliminate advertisements from different websites and videos. This is one of those reasons why specialists often classify AdSkip as a potentially unwanted program (PUP). Sadly, there are other reasons why we cannot consider this application a trustworthy program as well. We will tell you more about this application in the article. In addition, we will explain to you how to get rid of this program in case you decide to eliminate it from your computer after reading this entire article.

As research has shown, AdSkip is developed by the infamous Elex-Tech company that is notorious for developing software which starts acting in an undesirable way after a month or so. In most cases, these applications start downloading and installing malicious software on computers without permission. Therefore, we fear that users who decide to keep AdSkip installed might encounter malicious software, e.g. Trojans, adware, browser hijackers, and other threats one day too. You can, of course, protect your system from harm by deleting this potentially unwanted program fully. We are sure that you will not miss it because it does not work in a very beneficial way and will quickly find another ad blocker to install instead of it.

Even though specialists consider AdSkip an unreliable program mainly because it might start downloading malware on the computer any moment, it is definitely not the only reason they think so. Security specialists have also managed to find out that this potentially unwanted program might be dropped by a Trojan. In other words, it might appear on your system without permission as a result of the presence of malware. On top of that, it is known that this application might also travel in software bundles and thus sneak onto the computer without permission. On top of that, this application might be available for download on untrustworthy third-party websites too.AdSkip Removal GuideAdSkip screenshot

As you have probably understood, the majority of users do not download and install this potentially unwanted program willingly; however, they notice the presence of AdSkip sooner or later. First of all, people tend to notice new shortcuts of AdSkip in the Start menu and Desktop. In addition, they often notice the new folder that belongs to this PUP in %APPDATA% and %PROGRAMFILES(x86)% directories. Last but not least, more experienced users also notice four new registry keys created in the system registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ADSKIP, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\ADSkipSvc, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\ADSkipSvc, and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ADSKIP. All these files and registry keys will no longer be visible if you fully eliminate the potentially unwanted program from your computer.

As AdSkip is not a serious computer threat like Trojans, ransomware or rootkits, it will not be difficult to get rid of this program. Fortunately, it does not leave any junk files either, so it will be enough to eliminate it through Control Panel. To help users who are going to do that for the first time we have prepared the manual removal instructions (they can be found below the article). To remove this PUP quicker, you can also use an automatic malware remover SpyHunter.

In non-techie terms:

Potentially unwanted programs are one of the most prevalent suspicious software on the web these days, so you might encounter them again if you do not take care of the system’s safety in advance. It is not that hard to protect the system from harm. All you need to do is to install an antimalware tool and keep it enabled 24/7/365.
