Many times when computer users attempt to install programs or perform a reinstall they get a missing .MSI file error preventing them from completing the installation of a given application. A big hindrance in identifying a .MSI file is usually a .MSI file is usually hidden such as the CONFIG.MSI file folder. In some instances computer users can successfully delete the config.msi file which contains backups of files that are being installed to avoid a missing .msi files error.
In some cases when you install an application it fails to remove the config.msi file which may result in an error when installing the next program. In order to remove the config.msi file you can follow the steps below.
First you must show hidden files and folders.
- Open My Computer
- Click on the Tools Menu, then go to Folder Options.
- Click on the View Tab.
- Find the Hidden Files and Folders section. Select Show Hidden Files and Folders
- Click OK
You can now find the MSCONFIG.MSI folder since it is now viewable and not hidden. Follow the steps below to delete the CONFIG.MSI file.
- Open My Computer
- Double click on your C: drive
- Find the MSCONFIG.MSI folder
- Right click on the MSCONFIG.MSI folder and select Delete.
- Click Yes when it asks if you would like to delete all folder files.
- Close the My Computer window.
You have now completed the deletion of the CONFIG.MSI file and you should be able to install an application without the missing .MSI file error.
