Stop Windows from automatically rebooting after a Windows Update

Does your PC automatically reboot after a Windows Update is installed?

Windows Update may automatically reboot your system after a Windows Update has installed. This may be an annoying function when your Windows Updates are set to automatically download and install causing your system to reboot each time. To stop this from happening you can follow the steps below.

1. Open your registry editor by going to Start menu > Run > type in regedit and press Enter
2. Find the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU using the folders on the left pane.
3. Once you have located this path look for an entry called NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers. If you see this entry listed then skip the next step.
4. Add the entry NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers by right clicking an open area below the listed entries and then select NEW > DWORD value. Type in NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers and press Enter.
5. Set the value of the NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers entry to 1 by double clicking the NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers entry and entering a 1 in the Value data field.
6. Click OK.
7. Close the Registry Editor and Restart Windows for the changes to take effect.
