Do you know what SearchConverterHD is?
SearchConverterHD is not a tool we would recommend installing for conversion services. Yes, if you install it, you will be able to convert currency and PDF files for free via the New Tab page on your Google Chrome web browser, but there is more to this suspicious extension. In fact, our research team identifies it as a potentially unwanted program (PUP), which might not sound like a big deal, but it can be. At the time of research, SearchConverterHD did not have an official download page, and it was also not available via the Chrome Web Store. This is where we expected to find the PUP because its clones have been distributed via this platform. The clones include Rolling Search, Spinyon, Searchaize, Searchsio, BoosterSearch, SearchOpedia, Sealoid, VideozSearchs, and many other identical-looking extensions. In the past, webcoapps was introduced as the party responsible for these PUPs, but SearchConverterHD does not have a clear creator. Nonetheless, it is possible that the same party stands behind all of these strange extensions. Just the fact that they are identical lets us know that they cannot be trusted because if a tool/product is reliable and useful, it can stand on its own. Most likely, multiple clones exist so that the creator could optimize their advertising potential.

Although SearchConverterHD might be introduced as a converter, first and foremost, it is a search tool. It is not a reliable one at that. Once the extension is installed, portal.search-converterhd.com takes over the New Tab page, but feed.search-converterhd.com is likely to change the default search provider, and this is also the search tool you face when you use the search dialog box introduced via the New Tab page. This tool is not reliable because it redirects to Yahoo Search. The results are likely to be modified to include sponsored content, and the creator of the PUP is likely to earn money by promoting such content. But can the parties, whose content is advertised, be trusted? It would be irresponsible of us to say that they can be trusted because that is a mystery. The SearchConverterHD Privacy Policy does not disclose the parties that the PUP works with, and so we suggest refraining from using its search tool.
If you can follow the simple steps presented below, you can delete SearchConverterHD manually. This is not a task that requires experience or time. However, if the PUP came bundled with other unwanted extensions or even malware, you might need both experience and time to clean your system yourself. Luckily, you can rely on anti-malware software to delete threats and PUPs automatically. You also can rely on it to secure your system and prevent new threats from invading it. Of course, you have to do your part as well, and it is most important that you pay attention to what you are downloading and installing. Remove SearchConverterHD from Google Chrome
- Launch the browser and tap keys ALT+F to open the Chrome menu.
- Click More tools to find more options and then click Extensions.
- Identify the undesirable extension and then click Remove.
- Tap CTRL+SHIFT+DELETE keys to open the Clear browsing data menu.
- In the Advanced menu, select a time range and mark the boxes you want.
- Click the Clear data button and then restart the browser.
