Do you know what Shipment Trackers is?
If you have lots of packages coming in daily, you might be interested in an easy way to track them all. Shipment Trackers is a Google Chrome extension that promises to help users do just that, but our research team identifies it as a PUP (potentially unwanted program), and the recommendation is to delete it from the browser immediately. Why? Can’t you use the tool to track packages? The answer depends on how you look at the extension. It presents links to websites that can help you track packages, and so we do not believe that it is useful. Beyond that, there are virtual security concerns as well, and if you care about your own virtual security, it is strongly recommended that you remove Shipment Trackers add-on.
While Shipment Trackers is introduced at shipmentrackers.com, Chrome users can only download it from chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/shipment-trackers/capblhlnijkiglhdacnlboimeikjnnig/. This Chrome web store installer informs that the extension can read and change data, read browsing history, and also change search settings on the installed web browser. That is consistent with all other extensions that were created by Eightpoint Technologies. This is the developer behind Shipment Trackers, Login to My Email, My Email Checker Tab, Find A Flight Pro, and hundreds of other questionable extensions. They all have the same interface, and at the top, you can find links to legitimate websites, while in the center, you can find a search box. As we mentioned earlier, the PUP does offer links to websites that offer package tracking. These include canadapost.ca, aramex.com, yodel.co.uk, tnt.com, usps.com, ups.com, fedex.com, and dhl.com. However, you can easily bookmark these websites or access them via a legitimate search engine.
The search engine introduced by Shipment Trackers is our main concern. Once hp.hshipmentrackers.com is set as the New Tab page and the default search provider on your browser, you are bound to use this search tool sooner or later. At first, you might think nothing of it because it redirects to Yahoo Search. In fact, if this was your default search provider before installing Shipment Trackers, you might think that nothing has changed. That is not the truth. In reality, the PUP modifies what you see in the results, and these modifications might include sponsored links from unknown and, therefore, unreliable parties. If you do not realize that the results were modified, you might interact with links that route to malicious or unreliable sites. If that has happened already, think about what kinds of risks that could have put you in. For example, if you were introduced to installers of unfamiliar extensions or programs, you now might need to delete something malicious.Shipment Trackers screenshot

All things considered, we are sure that you do not want to put yourself at risk, and that is exactly what you do by installing Shipment Trackers. Are you ready to remove this potentially unwanted program? Our research team has prepared a quick guide that explains how to delete the extension and also clear browsing data in case there are any intrusive data-trackers. Once you handle the PUP, it is a good idea to implement a malware scanner to examine your operating system. If anything malicious is found, perhaps you need a legitimate anti-malware tool to clear your system automatically? This is the tool we recommend installing in any case because only it can provide you with comprehensive system protection.

In non-techie terms:
You might think that Shipment Trackers is a beneficial program. It is not. Even though it offers links to legitimate websites that can help you track packages, the extension itself does not offer beneficial services, and the search tool it introduces cannot be trusted. It redirects all queries to Yahoo Search, where the results are modified to include sponsored content. While free service operators have to make money somehow, when it comes to PUPs that exploit well-known and trusted search tools to promote sponsored content, we do not believe that this is the right way to do it. If you wish to delete Shipment Trackers, we suggest either following the guide above or implementing legitimate anti-malware software to take care of things automatically. Whichever route you take, make sure you are more careful about what extensions and applications you download in the future.
