Obtenez Email Removal Guide

Do you know what Obtenez Email is?

Obtenez Email is an application that was created for the French users of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer browsers. It is meant to help users retrieve emails from different service providers, and if you have quite a few accounts, you might find the application to be useful. If it was useful, we would not classify it as a potentially unwanted program, or “PUP.” It was created by the infamous Polarity Technologies Ltd., and that puts it into the same basket along with Get Daily Bible Verses, My Daily Verse XP, I Need Directions Now, and hundreds of other PUPs that our research team has reviewed already. Although the app we are discussing in this report is not classified as a critical security threat, it comes bundled with a browser hijacker, and it itself is not all that useful, and that is why you might be inclined to delete it. If you want to learn how to remove Obtenez Email, you are reading the right report.

The suspicious Obtenez Email is promoted at obtenezemail.com (the official download page), and the Chrome web store, at chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/obtenezemail/oaklknphdiohkhlofegffngccoendnao. Both of these sources represent the application in a positive light, and we shouldn’t have expected anything else. According to the official download page, the PUP can help you access Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo, Free.fr, Sfr.fr, and many other email accounts. The same kind of information is presented on the Chrome web store too. Of course, these sources are not the only ones that could be promoting Obtenez Email. In fact, our research team suggests that unreliable bundled installers could be used as well. If you have let the PUP in along with other questionable programs, use a malware scanner right away to check if you need to delete any of them. Once installed – regardless of how that happens – Search.obtenezemail.com is set as the homepage or New Tab page. This page looks like a normal search engine with a ton of links to third-party sites. These include orange.com, gmail.com, live.com, sfr.fr, yahoo.com, free.fr, facebook.com, viamichelin.fr, and meteofrance.com. Since these links are legitimate, some users might postpone the removal indefinitely.Obtenez Email Removal GuideObtenez Email screenshot

If you type keywords into the search field in the center of Search.obtenezemail.com, you will be routed to Yahoo Search at search.yahoo.com. Although shown via a familiar search engine, the results could be modified, and that is one of the biggest reasons to delete Obtenez Email from your operating system. On top of that, your searches and virtual activity are tracked and analyzed to help advertisers introduce you to more personalized content. Isn’t that a bonus? It is not if the advertisers behind the PUP are unreliable and are using attractive ads just to trick you into clicking them. Whether that is done to boost traffic to certain websites or to expose you to scams, you need to be cautious. Instead of tiptoeing around this hijacker/PUP, we suggest deleting it without further hesitation. Note that you can always add links to your email providers to your web browser’s bookmarks bar for easy access. You do not need an application for that.

Uninstall Obtenez Email if it has taken over your Internet Explorer web browser, or remove the extension on Chrome and Firefox browsers. The hijacker should be eliminated along with it. Unfortunately, you cannot separate the two, but even if you were able to get rid of the hijacker, the PUP could still spy on you, and that is one of the reasons to eliminate it. Although you might be able to delete Obtenez Email manually, we suggest installing anti-malware software if other threats exist. Regardless of the malware, the software will be able to clear it and, more important, secure your operating system to keep it clear from malware in the future.

In non-techie terms:

Although the services of Obtenez Email might appear to be quite useful, you should think before installing this potentially unwanted program. It does not offer exclusive or highly beneficial services, and its only purpose – as it appears to be – is to introduce you to a browser hijacker that, without permission, redirects searches to a third-party engine and shows sponsored links. Without a doubt, it is best to remove Obtenez Email if you installed it, and you can do that using the instructions above (for those interested in manual removal), or using an anti-malware program. While the latter solution fits any situation, you should be particularly interested in it if you are dealing with multiple other suspicious programs or even malware.
