Do you know what ConvertrzSearch is?
ConvertrzSearch is one of the many unwanted applications that might find their way into your computer. Most of the time, these potentially unwanted programs enter the system accidentally, but not without your permission. If you want to avoid such apps in the future, you have to be really attentive during your browsing sessions. There might be all sorts of pop-ups and redirects that offer you to install ConvertrzSearch to your browser. If you click them blindly, you will allow this extension on-board, and then you will be scrambling to remove it for good.
The problem with these extensions is that they often look quite reliable. For instance, ConvertrzSearch even has an official website via get.convertz-search.com, and there is a page for it at the Chrome Web Store. So, the extension doesn’t hide its presence, and it really needs your permission to be added to the Chrome browser. Thus, you might not be aware of the fact that you add this extension, but it doesn’t exactly trick you or anything. It’s just that you might not know exactly how ConvertrzSearch and other similar applications spread around, and it would lead to multiple undesirable installations.
The point is that aside from the official sources, this application could easily arrive through other channels, too. For instance, downloading freeware from file-sharing sites could result in unwanted installations. Also, gaming sites, video streaming pages, and other sites that support third-party advertising could be involved in the ConvertrzSearch distribution network. So, if suddenly your browser opens a new window, and it offers to add some new extension to your browser, you just need to close the window, no questions asked. Don’t click on the pop-up just because it’s the easiest way to close it.
If you click the pop-up that offers ConvertrzSearch, you should also notice all the permissions this extension requires for it to work. Before you add it to your browser, you agree that this app will read your browsing history, and that it will change your search settings to feed.convertrz-search.com. If you fail to notice this notification, it will seem like your browser has been infected with a browser hijacker. Needless to say, that’s not the case, and you don’t need to worry about such dangerous threats. However, you also shouldn’t allow ConvertrzSearch to remain on your system because it is still a potential security threat.ConvertrzSearch screenshot

Why so? Well, it’s not because of the main function of this extension. Sure, it promotes itself as “the best way to search.” But the question is whether you really need an application that is powered by a third-party search engine to provide you with the search function. Why would you use a mediator, when you can simply set a search engine of your choice as your main search provider?
What’s more, the main security issue associated with ConvertrzSearch is the exposure to unreliable third-party content. Since this extension collects information on your browsing history, it could generate custom commercial content that might be embedded in between the search results.
The problem here is that ConvertrzSearch does not review the content that is promoted through its advertising space. The application isn’t sophisticated enough to do that, and it could easily be exploited by unreliable third parties. It’s not like this extension is trying to infect you with anything, it just cannot help what or how uses it to promote their content. And while the possibility of a malware infection is very tiny, it would still be better if you removed ConvertrzSearch from your system right now.
There are several ways to terminate this extension. You can simply delete it via the Extensions menu on your Chrome browser. We always recommended resetting browser settings to default because that also deletes other traces of the application. What’s more, it could also remove other unwanted applications that could be added to your browser.
For the full effect, don’t hesitate to scan your computer with the SpyHunter free scanner. You might have various unwanted programs running, so you have to take care of your system’s safety and security. Remove everything that could cause issues, and then protect your PC from similar intruders in the future.
