Do you know what VirusProtect is?
VirusProtect, or VirProtect, is a rogue anti-spyware program which downloads and installs itself onto your PC through a Trojan called Zlob. VirusProtect will use deceptive advertising tactics to mislead you into buying the full version of the program.
Zlob Trojan can be found bundled in video codecs used to view video files, especially with adult content. If you agree to install a video codec from a questionable website, you're also agreeing to have a trojan installed that modifies your web browser, adds a fake security alert icon on your Windows desktop, and pops up fake security messages urging you to install rogue anti-spyware programs like VirusProtect.
If you click on the fake security message, the trojan downloads and installs VirusProtect. VirusProtect will scan your computer and show exaggerated or false reports in order to scare you into paying for the program. Once the scan is completed, another warning message pops up that provides a link that directs you to a pre-defined website to purchase VirusProtect for $49.
Do not confuse VirusProtect with VirusProtect Pro. VirusProtect and VirusProtect Pro are two different versions of rogue anti-spyware programs. VirusProtect is known to be a clone of Antivirgear.
In non-techie terms: Distributors of trojans conduct illicit installation methods to extort money from you. Do not click on VirusProtect fake security messages.
