Each PC, upon installation of Windows, asks that you enter your name or company name fore registration of Windows or for indentifying the ownership of a certain computer. How to change the "Registered to" name or company name on your computer using the registry editor (regedit).
- Open your registry editor by going to Start Menu > Run > type in regedit click OK.
- Find the following paths:
*For Windows 95, 98 and ME - find the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion using the folders on the left pane.
*For Windows NT, 2000 and XP - find the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion - Locate RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization registry entries on the right pane.
- Change the Value data to your desired Name or Organization for both RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization.
- Click OK and Exit the Registry Editor.
- You may restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
- You can now double check the "Registered to" name by right-clicking My Computer and select Properties.
