Do you know what CommentsPlus is?
Do you like expressing your opinions online? If you do, a potentially unwanted program (PUP) named CommentsPlus might seem to be quite useful. This application promises to help you “voice your opinion in a fun, fast and easy way.” It is stated that you can leave your audio comments on any article and on any website you want, which is a dead giveaway that not everything is right with this extension. As a matter of fact, the bogus service is not the real issue here. What we are most concerned about is the search tool that comes bundled with the PUP. We discuss it further in the report, and we also explain why removing CommentsPlus is important for your virtual security. If you want to learn more, continue reading, and if you want to delete the PUP right away, find a guide below.
First and foremost, let’s discuss the entrance of CommentsPlus. It appears that Google Chrome users might download this extension via pop-ups/ads shown to them on random websites. We cannot know if these pop-ups/ads represent the official installer that is found on elp.comments-plus.com and chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/commentsplus/cljhiahgacgkopjhcmifljbjdgjfigma. Therefore, we have to consider the possibility that third-party installers might be involved. Furthermore, there is always a possibility that your could find the PUP packaged along with other questionable programs and extensions whenever you download new software. In any case, if CommentsPlus exists, you MUST scan your operating system. While dealing with this undesirable extension is fairly easy, the situation might shift if more serious threats are found. Obviously, if they are found, you must delete them ASAP.CommentsPlus screenshot

We now need to discuss what really matters. CommentsPlus is unlikely to offer you any beneficial or authentic service, but that is a secondary problem. The first problem you have is the existence of the suspicious blpsearch.com. You might have not noticed it yet, but this is your default search provider. Is it trustworthy? It certainly is not, despite the fact that it redirects to search.yahoo.com (Yahoo Search). You might be familiar with this search engine, and you might trust it, but trusting blpsearch.com is a mistake. When this hijacker redirects to Yahoo Search, it modifies the results on behalf of Aztec (the creator of the PUP) to ensure that sponsored links are shown. What is the purpose of that? The company has to earn money somehow, and since CommentsPlus is free to use, it relies on ads to bring in the money. The problem is that we do not know if the advertisers and other parties associated with the PUP can be trusted. After all, malvertising is a real thing, and we all need to beware of it.
As you can see, five simple steps can help you remove CommentsPlus from your Google Chrome web browser. We hope that you can eliminate this potentially unwanted program right away, but if more serious threats exist, you might decide to get rid of them first. While you can go about that manually, you can save time and energy by installing a trustworthy anti-malware program. Even if the PUP is the only undesirable piece of software on your operating system, you want to consider employing this program for the security of your system and browsers. In non-techie terms:
If you think that CommentsPlus is a genuine and useful program, you need to think again. Most likely, the only reason this potentially unwanted program was created in the first place was to expose you to a questionable search tool whose only task is to redirect you to Yahoo Search, where modified results could be shown. Considering that the service of the PUP is not reliable or useful, we recommend removing it as soon as possible. You can delete CommentsPlus manually using the instructions above, but if other threats exist, if you are inexperienced, and if you worry about your virtual security, installing anti-malware software is the better option. Install it now, and forget about your security issues for good.
