Try not to run specialised tools without assistance, however, did ComboFix actually finish running? If so, attach the C:\ComboFix.txt log file. I'm don't know what problems you actually were having after running it.

You may download Kaspersky and run the program which should have removed some of the problems. This will enable you to re-install HijackThis, AVG Spyware and Combofix and go through the removal techniqes which you were unable to access previously. This should solve your problem.

combofix.exe seems to work. Smithfraudfix did nothing I'm afraid. This is a pretty serious virus and it seems to be spreading like wildfire. I have no idea where it came from. Weird thing is that it's my wife's laptop that got infected. She uses this for work and only ever browes 'legit' sites.

Be afraid....very afraid

Hey all, I was in the same boat. I ended up downloading a program called combofix.exe ... if you google it there is info about it on a few sites, especially in relation to this whole StorageProtector thing. The program does warn you that it can technically mess up your computer if interrupted, etc, so be sure to do NOTHING, not even moving the mouse, after you start it. However, I ran it and now I don't have those two icons popping up anymore!!! I was sooooo happy when it was fixed.
