I thought I would comment about this since I am the Founder of a non-profit cybercrimes investigation and prevention organization.

I have been investigating these, for 3 months now and I can say with all certantity that it is "badware". And a huge scam, I recommend taking a look at KnujOn.com news page since they are really involved in this, KnujOn is similar to Stopbadware.com or Spam Cop.
