I have not tried your detailed instructions for automatic removal, but I did encounter something that may be of note in your manual removal instructions:

When I went to the ADD/REMOVE program in Control Panel, and then clicked on the button to remove/change, instead of doing that, the Installer for AntispywareXP2009 was launched. I don't recall, but I am pretty sure that I was in normal mode and not Safe Mode when I attempted this several times.

Also, it seems as though there should be some REGISTRY entries that need to be deleted for complete removal in the manual process. Did you just avoid those due to the inherent risk of someone messing up their computer if done incorrectly?

Thanks,

Thanks for the guide, I have deleted the actually AntispywareXP 2009, but there is a red circle with a white x icon (in the toolbar area with the time) that is continuing to flash a pop up that says i am infected with spyware and i need to download AntispywareXP 2009 to get rid of it. It is not damaging my computer in any way that i am aware of at the moment but it is quite annoying. I don't see any obvious way to get rid of this icon and whenever i right click it, is starts to download AntispywareXP 2009. Also, when i roll over it with my mouse the pop up automatically appears. If anyone knows what to do to get rid of this please help. Thank You.
